Requirements

High school students are required to have an unweighted GPA of at least 3.0 to attend the Summer Institute. Honors camps require a GPA of at least 3.5 to attend. Students will be required to submit unofficial transcripts during the registration process.

Come experience GCU's vibrant campus and rigorous academic environment before freshman year. Workshops target specific areas of interest and academic content is delivered by individual colleges, designed to introduce you to potential career paths. GCU's knowledgeable faculty leaders teach these workshops and closely integrate GCU's Christian worldview for values-based learning experiences. Take time to think about what you like to do and what you're passionate about, as well as your skills and talents. Then explore the following to see which camp matches best!

Art of Accounting - $515
Students will develop future accounting skills and understand the art behind the numbers at GCU's Art of Accounting weeklong summer camp. Experience hands-on accounting activities and work with experts at industry-specific locations.

Marketing and Advertising - $515
This program is for students who have a knack for design and art. In GCU's Marketing and Advertising camp, students will work with GCU's Student Ad Agency and learn how to create various advertising campaigns. Students will also visit possible industry-specific locations to experience marketing creations from the experts.

Resort, Hotel and Restaurant Management - $515
Students study the fundamentals of running a restaurant and hotel from the experts at the GCU Hotel and Canyon 49 Grill. Participate in the Canyon 49 Team Challenge and tour the GCU Hotel and GCU Golf Course to develop hospitality skills with engaging and fun activities.

Sports Business and Management - $515
Leading industry professionals, such as GCU's basketball team and various professional baseball teams, will teach students interested in the growing sports business industry about the basics of managing athletes. This is a great opportunity for students who love sports and have good people skills.

Innovation Makerspace Experience - $515
Students are required to bring a laptop with them to use during this camp.
This is a collaboration camp for engineering, entrepreneurial and computer science students who have a desire to create a product for market. Work as a team to design a Lego Mindstorm and receive hands-on experience from experts in the field!

Lopes Teach Up - $515
Students will explore multi-faceted, exciting and rewarding career opportunities in education inside and outside of the classroom by participating in hands-on activities that include peer competitions and field trips to the Phoenix Children's Museum and Heard Museum. Professional experts in early childhood, elementary, secondary and post-secondary education will help students find their purpose at GCU's Lopes Teach Up summer camp.

Musical Theatre and Acting Immersion - $515
Calling all singer/actors and actor/singers, otherwise known as thespians! Join fellow performers at GCU's Music Theatre and Acting Immersion weeklong summer camp and experience musical theatre performance like never before. Students will audition solo material for a Cabaret Showcase, while also participating in small group activities for scene and group performance through workshops of acting and singing.

24 Hour Film Bootcamp - $515
Get ready to design a digital film from start to finish! Students will learn and receive hands-on training on the basics of digital film through various workshops, filming group projects and a live screening.

Graphic Novels/Comic Book Camp - $470
Ever wonder what it would be like to create a comic book? Sign up for this weeklong workshop that will introduces the processes and mindsets of creating a graphic novel through drawing and writing techniques. Students will learn from faculty in GCU's College of Fine Arts and Production to create and take home their own comic creation.

Dance Intensives - $515
June 17 - 21, 2019 (10th and 11th Graders)

The Summer Dance Intensive at GCU is a fun, fast-paced week filled with training, creativity and most of all fun! Dancers will train in jazz, ballet, contemporary, improvisation and partnering. Dancers will leave well-rounded and ready for anything the dance world can throw at them. Additionally, dancers will create their own choreography for our informal showing and perform it on our Ethington Theatre stage!

June 24 - 28, 2019 (12th Graders)
The Summer Dance Intensive at GCU is a fun, fast-paced week filled with training, creativity and most of all fun! Dancers will train in jazz, ballet, contemporary, improvisation and partnering. Dancers will leave well-rounded and ready for dance at the college level. On the last day of our camp, dancers will may participate in a mock audition for a college dance program. GCU dance faculty will lead them through the audition and provide feedback and tips/tricks on how to do well. Additionally, dancers will create their own choreography for our informal showing and perform it on our Ethington Theatre stage!

Debate - $515
This camp enhances communication skills inside and outside of classroom at the GCU Speech & Debate Team's summer institute. Develop and practice parliamentary debate skills with various coaches and then collaborate as a team to compete against other attendees during this weeklong program that utilizes STOA USA's parliamentary debate structure.

Science of Behavior - $515
Fascinated with the brain and human behavior? Join GCU's weeklong Science of Behavior camp to research and study psychological case studies for real-world analysis. Engage in various psychological and social behavior activities with peers and visit industry-specific sites.

Write On - $470
This camp connects students who aspire to write professionally and who want hands-on experience with experts in the field. In GCU's Write On camp, students engage in various forms of writing, from poetry to press releases and short stories to science writing. These activities are based off of courses in the GCU English Department's Professional Writing Program. Students also visit industry-specific sites to explore the world of journalism.


The Guts of Biomedical Engineering - $515
GCU's Guts of Biomedical Engineering summer camp provides hands-on biomedical engineering activities led by experts within the College of Science, Engineering and Technology. Students will collaborate to study and analyze Hydrogels, observe an Ultrasound viewing and build an EKG machine; students will learn how to detect, track and mitigate health risks.

The Spark of Electrical Engineering - $515
For those with a passion for designing technology, join other high school students at GCU's Spark of Electrical Engineering weeklong summer residency institute and gain experience from experts in the field. Students will learn how to design, control and maintain electrical equipment through various group projects, such as designing a microprocessor, building an EKG machine and creating robotic arm.

Mechanical Engineering Innovations - $515
In GCU's Mechanical Engineering Innovations weeklong residency camp, students will learn the essentials behind mechanical engineering by using modern technologies to analyze and measure mechanical behavior. Students will participate in hands-on laboratory simulations, such as designing and building a bridge in Solidworks, utilizing 3-D printing models and testing Hydrogels.

Environmental Sustainability - $515
Become the next environmental leader! GCU's Environmental Sustainability weeklong residency program will challenge students with designing sustainable solutions. Explore Arizona's beautiful riparium habitat and aquatic ecosystems by collaborating with other students in various hands-on group projects.

Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance - $515
Camp participants will engage in athletic training, nutrition, kinesiology, pre-physical therapy and performance athletics activities-the building blocks of sports medicine. Students will discover career paths that enable them to become a part of the sports medicine team. The camp will cover principles related to sports injuries and illnesses, including concussions, cardiovascular events and traumatic injuries, as well as techniques used by performance professionals to help athletes get back to peak performance. As an interactive camp, students will participate in hands-on skills development each day and build up to a Skills Drill Challenge.

The Science of Health & Medicine - $515
GCU's Science of Health & Medicine camp is a hands-on experience in the sciences that will give students the opportunity to engage in biomedicine and laboratory research within our state-of-the-art learning facilities. Students will be exposed to the reality of a pre-medicine degree program learning cardiovascular terminology, gross anatomy in the cadaver labs, microbiology and more through hands-on activities led by GCU pre-medicine faculty. Explore the scientific practices and knowledge necessary for a career in health care or research.

Technology: Cipher Avengers - $515
Students are required to bring a laptop with them to use during this camp.
Does designing code and coding sound interesting? Join other future coders at GCU's Cipher Avengers camp for one week this summer! Participate in hands-on activities and project challenges with peers while experiencing campus life at GCU.

Technology: Cyber Lopes - $515
Students are required to bring a laptop with them to use during this camp.
Students with interests in cybersecurity will love this hands-on, weeklong Cyber Lopes camp where they will practice their skills in GCU's cyber facilities. This is an opportunity for students to face challenges and engage in team cyber activities to protect the online cyber world.

Biblical Studies - $470
Students will experience an in-depth study of the Old and New Testament, while exploring their calling in life at GCU's one-week summer residency program. Students will dive deep into the Bible to deepen their knowledge of the Bible's origins, cultural background and teachings through hands-on activities and an introductory exploration of the original biblical languages.

The Art of Worship - $470
Do you have a passion for worship and want to share your musical talents with others? Register for GCU's Art of Worship camp to explore biblical worship, gain skills, develop gifts and sharpen musical abilities through hands-on experience leading worship. This track features opportunities to work in the GCU Recording Studio throughout the week!

A minimum unweighted GPA of 3.5 is required to attend the Honors College Summer Institute.

Global Studies: Thinking in 3D - $515
This program exposes students to creating and implementing innovative solutions for local and global issues. Delve into various case studies, while learning effective research methods and how to strategically incorporate data analytics into solutions-based thinking. Work collaboratively on product design in the GCU's Lopes Lab and learn to effectively present concepts in a pitch competition. Hear from industry experts on professional and leadership development, global awareness and innovative strategies in dynamic, interactive workshops throughout the Innovating Global Solutions summer institute.

Young Leader's Summit - $515
Calling all aspiring leaders! Join our accelerated weeklong residency program to collaborate with industry experts and fellow aspiring leaders around the Valley. Participate in dynamic, interactive seminars on professional and leadership development. Build a personal brand, effective networking strategies, public speaking and more! Enjoy a five-course etiquette dinner, while hearing from motivational keynote speakers who have successfully launched businesses and led teams in various industries. Participants will also partake in a leadership retreat and have the opportunity to put their new leadership skills into practice.


Thunder Vision STEM Day Camp

June 17 - 20, 2019

For incoming 6th - 9th graders

Join GCU for up to four days of STEM exploration, including interactive hands-on learning, discussions with industry insiders and engaging activities. Facilitated by experienced GCU faculty and experts, these camps are offered to get middle school students excited about STEM and introduce them to a future career in these areas. STEM experiences will cover areas such as cybersecurity, engineering, robotics, bioscience and technology. Campers will also have the opportunity to learn all about GCU and tour our vibrant campus!

Summer Science Camp

This science exploration experience, hosted by the GCU Learning Lounge®, is an authentic encounter with science perfect for elementary school students. Participants will integrate their newfound scientific knowledge with literacy and language skills. Second graders explore the human impact on the environment in "Shoreline Science" experiments. Third and fourth graders investigate how light functions in "Light Energy" and fifth graders examine how the solar system works in "Planets and Moon" experiments.

Grand Canyon University is hosting Lopes Sports Camps program for athletes of all ages and skill levels! Camps take place on GCU's campus and are led by our very own coaches and players. Below is a list of dates and camps.

Per NCAA rules, all sports camps and clinics conducted by Grand Canyon University are open to any and all entrants and enrollment is only limited based on age, grade level, gender, or number restrictions as specified by each camp.

GCU Baseball Santa Lope Camp

Head Coach Andy Stankiewicz and the GCU baseball coaching staff invite athletes to our 7th annual Christmas Skills Camp. Held at GCU Ballpark, this is a great opportunity for players to develop the necessary baseball and teamwork skills for their upcoming spring season. Get the professional instruction needed to become an overall better player!

The GCU women's basketball staff will be hands-on for all fundamental drills-dribbling, shooting and passing. The clinic's purpose is to provide a space where parents/guardians and kids can share in the experience of learning new basketball skills, while working hard and having fun together. Supervision is provided to participants during all instructional sessions. An athletic trainer will be on site for the duration of the camp.

The GCU Lopes Soccer Academy provides both field players and goalkeepers with technical and tactical training sessions similar to the GCU women's soccer team. Coached by the GCU women's soccer staff, players will also participate in activities like speed and agility sessions. This is a great opportunity for players to hone their soccer skills and knowledge. An athletic trainer will be on site.

The Lopes Residential ID Camp is made for athletes who desire focused training sessions designed to mirror GCU Women's Soccer Division I workouts. While living in the beautifully appointed dorms and using our great facilities, players will get a glimpse into what life is like as an NCAA soccer player. The GCU Women's Soccer staff will direct camp and provide insight into moving athletes' games to the next level.

This camp is open to all field players and goalkeepers. Parents are welcome to stay and watch sessions! Soccer ball and T-shirt is included in the registration fee.

The Grand Canyon University Soccer Academy is led by coach Hyndman and his dedicated staff of coaches. We will teach the skills needed to improve technique, emphasize tactical development, host tournaments and encourage creativity for players to develop confidence and a positive attitude.

SOFTBALL ALL-SKILLS CAMP



GCU Softball's two-day All-Skills Camp will include instruction in the areas of pitching, hitting, defense, baserunning, bunting and more. Campers participate in two scrimmages against other campers and work with GCU softball coaches and team players. Campers need to bring their own lunch and softball equipment. The camp will be held at both the GCU Softball Stadium and Colter Intramural Fields.

Athletes will be exposed to both basic and advanced skills to aid in their development as volleyball players. Athletes will learn drills and theories that the GCU Men's Volleyball Program utilizes to make their own players understand the game and become successful.
