Inagural Canyon 49 Cornhole Cup

Game on! The Canyon 49 Cornhole Cup is a battle to prove which GCU residence hall has what it takes. Formatted as a single elimination tournament of 16 doubles teams, the Cornhole Cup is the most exciting new tournament on campus.

Register now. Two players are permitted per team, with one team leader designated to register for both players.

Oct. 22
Qualifying Round
The first four teams from each residence hall to sign up by Oct. 19 compete for a chance to represent their home.
Oct. 29
Quarterfinals
The winning team from each of the 16 halls will compete. Eight winners will move forward.
Nov. 5
Semifinals
The winners from the previous round will compete. Four winners will continue.
Nov. 12
Finals
The 4 seminfal winners compete to be in the top 2, then the top 2 compete to be champions of the Canyon 49 Cornhole Cup!


Contest Format

The Canyon 49 Cornhole Cup is a Single Elimination Cornhole Tournament of 16 teams. Teams are matched up in a bracket format and are eliminated with their first loss. The winning teams continue playing until an overall winner is crowned.

  • In doubles play, two contestants are partners against another team of two contestants. One member of each team pitches from one cornhole platform and the other members pitch from the other cornhole platform.HR
  • Contestants alternate pitching corn bags until they have thrown all 8 corn bags from that side. Then, the score is tallied.
  • The remaining contestants on the other side then pick up the corn bags and continue to alternate in the same manner until all 8 corn bags are delivered and the inning completed. The score is tallied.

Game Rules

  1. All points count. No wiping points. Each round is tallied after all 8 bags have been thrown.
  2. Bag in-the-Hole (3 Points): Either thrown in or bumped in by another player.
  3. Bag on-the-Board (1 Point): Landed with any portion of corn bag resting on cornhole platform. If the bag touches ground before it comes to rest on platform it is a foul and must be removed from cornhole platform prior to continuation of play.
  4. Winner is the first team to reach 21 points.
  5. The following are rule violations that must be spotted and called by a contestant or assigned judge. The penalty is to declare the corn bag a foul corn bag, which requires the corn bags to be removed from the court prior to resuming play.
    • Any corn bag pitched when the contestant has made contact with or crossed over the foul line before the corn bag is released.
    • Any corn bag pitched when the contestant has started or stepped completely outside the pitching box before releasing the corn bag.
    • Any corn bag that bounces off the ground before it lands on the cornhole board.
    • Any corn bag that hits another object such as tree limb, wire, etc., before landing.
  6. A corn bag that is accidentally dropped by a contestant before the final forward swing has started shall not be considered foul and may be picked up and pitched.
  7. No heckling or disturbing noises and movements are allowed on or off the court.
